Numerical simulation of ultra‐lightweight concrete encased cold‐formed steel structures

The use of thin-walled structures has been increasingly spread in the last few decades due to their big advantages both structural design and construction methods. Therefore, recent researches have discussed a wide range applications. However, resistance such will be decreased by buckling effect; hence, different ways strengthening methods investigated. One this method is lightweight concrete as filling members. Previous experimental research at Department Structural Engineering Budapest University Technology Economics, was carried out investigate axial behavior polystyrene aggregate (PAC) braced CFS elements [1]. effect PAC led increase load-bearing capacity restrain global distortional modes steel elements. results revealed that ultimate load increased 37-94%. A simplified nonlinear finite element model developed ANSYS software able predict peak filled GMNI analyses were validate numerical tests. modelled using springs with adequate stiffness, where parametric study conducted determine proper imperfection amplitudes lengths. showed good agreement test results.
